Encaustic Mixed Media: Going Beyond Ordinary

Date and Time: Feb 6th and 7th 2012 from 9:30 – 4:00, ½ hour lunch break

With the endless versatility of beeswax and painting in encaustic it cannot be overlooked the availability of so many other mediums working beautifully with the wax. In this workshop artist, author and instructor Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch takes you into techniques with rust, plaster, tar, shellac and woodicing to open you to creativity beyond the ordinary. If experienced in encaustic you will grasp and move more swiftly through this new material, but those with less experience will be able to make their creative way through the processes without stalling out as well if you are knowledgeable in the basics of encaustic~

All supplies provided by instructor except supports on which to paint (birch art panels or Encausticbord 8 x 10 or smaller, 8-12 total), paper towel, latex gloves, waxed paper for transporting finished work and personal supplies you wish to bring to make your work unique to you! Bring your lunch for a ½ hour lunch break with your fellow artists.

Suggestions for you to bring: Pigment sticks or oil paint, Collage materials, Ephemera, Found objects, Scribing and incising tools

Innovative developer of Encaustikits and Encausticamp Patricia Baldwin Seggebruch began painting more than a dozen years ago-always abstractly and evolved into encaustics from acrylic over eight years ago. Her love for the medium translates into her teaching, and students’ worldwide benefit from a passionate, engaging workshop experience filled with all the knowledge Patricia has acquired and developed in her forage into this rich and diverse medium. She conducts workshops around the globe and has developed new cutting edge techniques which she loves to share with other artists.

Sat and Sun, Jan 21st and 22nd, Time: 1-3 Tuition $135, add materials fee $10 for supplies to get you started. Interest in this medium is growing by leaps and bounds. No matter what subject you enjoy, from animals and people to still life and landscapes, it can be done in scratchboard! Students will learn the basic strokes and how to use the tools to achieve the results they are after. Finished pieces reproduce beautifully for prints and cards. Perfect for highly detailed work that you can create with ease!
