Mark Holland

ARTIST STATEMENT
I am an artist who paints what is inside me. Painting is an exploration of what I am thinking in my conscious state and my subconscious dream state.Culture and history of the human race continually fascinate me. I am constantly investigating the past and present in daily life. My work distills and displays the discoveries I find. The subconscious mind also plays a large part in my work. I try to grasp my dreams and contemplate their meanings in my work as well. What I give to the world is an exposure of my inner self: an honest, upfront, no explanation needed revelation. If my work resonates / connects with the viewer then we have communicated with each other in a profound, unspoken, intimate way. A communication in which words are not necessary.I was born in Asmara, Eritrea in East Africa and have lived in many parts of the world. All places have colored my life and work.
